Sounds of the Universe is the upcoming twelfth full-length album by Depeche Mode, to be released in Germany on 17 April 2009, internationally on 20 April, and on 21 April in the US and Canada. It will be supported by the Tour of the Universe. The album is set to contain 13 tracks[1], confirmed via the official Depeche Mode website.

According to Andy Fletcher, a lot of extra tracks were recorded which will be on a deluxe version of the album.[2] Fletcher went on to state that the deluxe version of the album is set to contain new and old demo recordings of Depeche Mode songs, with around 18 songs having been recorded in total.[3]

"Spacewalker" is an instrumental and Martin Gore sings the lead of "Jezebel" and "The Sun and the Moon and the Stars". "Peace" is a duet between Dave Gahan and Gore. "Oh Well" is co-written by Gore and Gahan.

On February 9, a low-quality version of "Fragile Tension" leaked onto the Internet. Dave Gahan later stated in an interview that it was a rough, unfinished version of the track.[4] On March 1, non-album versions of "Hole To Feed" and "Come Back" also leaked. On March 26, the entire album leaked online.
